The Self-Report of Functional Ability Kit comprises the Hand Function Sort Kit, the Spinal Function Sort Kit, and the new paper and pencil version of the Multidimensional Task Ability Profile Kit. All three assessments are used as self-reports of perceived ability in the Functional Capacity Evaluation. Comparing clients’ perceived ability to perform activities of daily living and physical demands to their measured abilities is important to target, as these tests can be further extrapolated to look at full or less than full effort during the FCE.

Each of these assessments is designed to be quickly administered, with no additional equipment needed. The test booklets provide both a pictorial description of the task as well as a brief written explanation, which allows the client to more easily interpret what the specific activity being referred to entails. These assessments are designed to be easily scored by hand, and provide a percentile ranking based on normative data for healthy individuals and a “Rating of Perceived Capacity” which can be cross-referenced to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Physical Demand Characteristic of Work.

By having all three assessments available the professional can gear the evaluation to the client’s specific impairment, as outlined below:
